Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - A nearly flawless game...
That could best describe the Flint Generals in their 3-2 triumph over the Fort Wayne Komets on Friday night to stop their six game losing streak and make their fans forget about the disaster 24 hours ago.
The Generals had a solid game from the entire team and played an aggressive contest that had Fort Wayne back peddling all night long. Bill Zaniboni won his first game in a Generals uniform turning aside 28-30 shots and was chosen as the game's first star.
It was Flint's sixth win of the season and it tied them with Bloomington for fifth place in the standings.
The Blue and Gold began the game with no slow start that had characterized their play recently and were rewarded for their efforts when John DiPace scored on a sharp angle from Greg Bullock and Steve Rymsha with just eight seconds left in the opening stanza.
The Generals began the second the way the closed the first when Justin DePretis scored on pretty play from Steve Rymsha with just 23 seconds on in the frame. Fort Wayne battled back and cut the deficit to one when Leo Thomas spotted PC Drouin alone at the side of the net.
Fort Wayne pulled even late in the third period when Sean O'Connor scored on a follow up rebound. But the Generals wouldn't be denied as Steve Rymsha scored 1:49 seconds later when he tipped home a Kyle Deck blast from the point. The play was set up by Greg Bullock along the boards.
The teams were a combined 0 for 11 on the power play but the Generals had two five on threes in the contest including two four minute man advantages.
