Port Huron Icehawks News Release

MUSKEGON, MI - The Port Huron Icehawks scored five unanswered goals on Friday to halt the Muskegon Lumberjacks 6-4 and pull into sole possession of first place in the International Hockey League standings.

The Icehawks were perfect on the power play (2-2) as they dealt Muskegon a rare home loss. The Lumberjacks are now 7-2-0-0 at L.C. Walker Arena this season.

Tab Lardner and Nick Lindberg each tallied a goal and two assists for Port Huron, while Jamie Carroll added a goal and an assist.

The Lumberjacks scored first with a goal at 7:30 in the opening period, but Carroll notched a goal of his own just 25 seconds later to kick off an offensive onslaught that saw four consecutive Port Huron goals before the period came to a close. The goals included a power play marker by Daniel Tetrault and even strength goals from Lardner and Lindberg.

In the second period, Jamie Lovell took advantage of the Icehawks second power play opportunity of the night to give his team a commanding 5-1 lead. The Lumberjacks then regained some momentum and attempted to get back in the game with three consecutive goals of their own, including two in the second and one in the third. The Icehawks were not finished, however, and added a Derek Patrosso insurance goal with 4:45 left to play. Todd Robinson had two goals and two assists for Muskegon.

The Icehawks outshot the Lumberjacks 28-22 in the victory, including a margin of 15-6 in the first period alone. Goalie Larry Sterling made 18 saves for his second win in as many nights. Lumberjacks goalie Issac Reichmuth took the loss with 22 saves on 28 shots.

Muskegon and Kalamazoo face each other tomorrow night, while the Icehawks are idle the rest of the weekend.

The Icehawks return home on Tuesday to take on the Fort Wayne Komets before hitting the road for trips to Bloomington on Friday and Fort Wayne on Sunday.
