Victoria Generals News Release

The Victoria Generals played the Acadiana Cane Cutters for a second straight night, defeating them 6-3. With the win and loss by the Baton Rouge Rougarou, the Generals have punched their ticket to the 2023 Texas Collegiate League playoffs.

The results of tonight's matchups means that the Generals will be the No. 2 seed in the playoffs and play a three-game semifinal series with games 2 and 3 played at Riverside Stadium. The opponent, time, and location for game 1 will be announced at the end of the season. Playoffs begin August 1.

Starting on the mound for Victoria was Abilene Christian RHP Blaine Palmer, who picked up the win with six scoreless innings while throwing six strikeouts and allowing six hits and one walk. In relief for Palmer was Huston Tillotson RHP Seve Medrano, who pitched two innings, allowing two earned runs off of one hit and a walk. After Medrano's outing, Trace Sanchez would come into play, allowing a run from a hit and a walk. KT Gearlds closed the night out with a scoreless ninth inning, throwing three strikeouts and allowing one hit.

Victoria was shutout and scoreless for five innings before the offense came alive, scoring four runs in the top of the sixth inning. Runs in the seventh and ninth innings would help the Generals get out of Louisiana with a win.

Tonight's stars included UT-Arlington 1B Tyce Armstrong, New Mexico 3B Reed Spenrath and Western Oklahoma State CF Cristopher Munoz. Armstrong had two RBIs by reaching base with a walk and an error. Spenrath tallied two RBIs by hitting a 2-run single and Munoz picked up an RBI as well that helped the offense find its groove late in the game.

The Generals will be back in action tomorrow night against the Cane Cutters at Riverside Stadium at 7:05 p.m. on Free Ticket Night, presented by Caterpillar.
