October 21, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
Dayton, OH- The Dayton Gems Ownership Group, in association with the local Habitat for Humanity branch in Kettering announced today that they will be volunteering on the construction of a new home for a Sudanese refugee family at 2730 Gaylord Ave, in Kettering on Tuesday, October 26th from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
"We are so excited to have the support of a hometown team," says Jennifer Dean, Volunteer Services Coordinator for Dayton Habitat. "We are so grateful of the time these guys are taking out of their busy schedule to help a local family achieve their dream of homeownership!"
The entire Dayton Gems hockey team from players to front office members will be working very hard on Tuesday, but not at the rink on the ice or in the office answering phone calls; instead they will put on their hard hats, strap on their tool belts and give back to their community. All 19 players and the rest of the Gems staff will be installing doors and windows and hanging siding. The two-story home will provide Cirlio, his wife, Bronica and their seven children with an energy-efficient, healthy and affordable home in a safe neighborhood.
"This is a rare and unique opportunity for our team and we are honored to be a part of such an important organization within our community," said Gems President Joe Greene. "Dayton Habitat for Humanity is all about helping families improve their quality of life through homeownership and to know that we will have a hand in doing that is something all of these players and our staff will never forget being a part of."
