Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - Dustin Donaghy's third period goal broke a 4-4 tie and propelled the Allen Americans to a 6-4 victory over the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs Thursday night at the CenturyTel Center. Bossier-Shreveport's first loss of the season dropped them to 3-1-0 on the year, while Allen stayed unbeaten at 3-0 heading into tomorrow night's rematch.
Steven Crampton scored twice for the Mudbugs, who also got a goal and an assist from David Rutherford and two assists from Jim Jorgensen while going 3 for 5 on the powerplay. Newly signed rookie goaltender Archie Henderson played most of the game for the 'Bugs after Jeff Harvey left with an injury in the first period.
Allen jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead behind goals from Tobias Whelan and Bruce Graham, who tipped in Erik Adams' shot at 6:08 to put the visitors up by a pair. The Mudbugs roared back though with two powerplay goals in less than a minute to tie the game. Justin Aikins notched his fourth goal of the season on the rebound of a Jamie Milam blast during a 5-on-3 and then Steven Crampton banged home Travis Clayton's centering feed during the ensuing 5-on-4 to knot the score at two. David Simoes beat Harvey on a rebound chance just over a minute later however to put the Americans up 3-2 after one.
The 'Bugs tied it at three early in the second frame when Rutherford crashed the net to score another powerplay tally on a rebound chance in front. Judd Blackwater gave Allen the lead again though when he finished off a breakaway feed from Dave Bonk to make it 4-3 Americans shortly before Crampton fought David Simoes near the end of the period.
Bossier-Shreveport drew even again mid-way through the third when Jorgensen and Rutherford combined to set up Crampton's finish on a perfectly executed odd-man rush that tied the game at four. Allen went ahead to stay just 35 seconds later however, as Bonk made another great feed to Donaghy, who ripped a shot over Henderson's shoulder for the game-winning goal. A late Mudbugs push failed to tie the score and Whelan iced it with a late empty-netter.
Jeff Harvey stopped six shots before leaving the game less than 11 minutes in, with Archie Henderson making 25 saves in 48 minutes in his professional debut. Chris Whitley turned aside 27 'Bugs shots as Allen won the shot count 37-31. The Americans ended 0 for 3 on the powerplay.
The same two teams will get right back at it tomorrow night at the CenturyTel Center, with opening faceoff set for 7:05 pm in the second game of this back-to-back set.
