Klamath Falls Gems News Release
KLAMATH FALLS, OR - The Klamath Falls Gems ended a four-game losing streak by taking down the Kelowna Falcons, 7-2, to celebrate the Fourth of July at Kiger Stadium.
The Falcons took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning off starter Drew Staples (Pierce College), who went the first four innings for Klamath Falls. The Gems responded with a single run in the bottom of the first before exploding for five runs, the team's largest single-inning total of the year, in the third. With a 6-2 lead in hand, Gems pitchers Matt Klein (Oklahoma State), Aaron LaBrie (Wichita State) and Jeremy Burright (Mt. Hood CC) combined to shut Kelowna down the rest of the way.
The Gems move to 10-15 on the season and gain a half-game on the first place Cowlitz Black Bears, who were idle tonight. Boomer Hermes (North Dakota State) gave up three earned runs in two 1/3 innings and took the loss for the Falcons. Kelowna drops to 7-19 and remains in fourth place in the WCL East Division.
The two teams wrap up their three-game series in Klamath Falls with a 7:05 p.m. start time on Tuesday at Historic Kiger Stadium.
