Gems Stay Undefeated

Klamath Falls Gems News Release


KLAMATH FALLS, OR - The Klamath Falls Gems (2-0) scored in the bottom of the 10th inning at Kiger Stadium to take the second game of the season against the Bend Elks (0-2) by a score of 3-2. Gems starting pitcher Hunter Greenwood (Cal State Sacramento) went 4 1/3 innings with five strikeouts gave up two runs. Jason Wilson (Western Oregon) took the mound for the Elks and lasted five innings, giving up four hits and only allowed one run.

Ashton McCoy started the Gems first inning with one of his two singles of the night. Tom D'Aboy (Gonzaga) hit a double into right field. Elks right fielder Brandon Snyder couldn't come up with the ball allowing McCoy to score.

In the top of the 10th Nick Miller (Nebraska) crushed a ball deep into the right center gap, off the wall for a double. A few pitches later, Bo Cornish (Portland) hit the first pitch he saw up the middle into center field. Miller easily scored from second when Elks center fielder Justin Maffei couldn't scoop up the ground ball.

The Gems improve their record to 2-0 and are looking for and opening sweep against the Elks tomorrow. In attendance for the Gem's second was 819 fans, two hours and thirty six minutes was the game time. Game three is Sunday night at 6:05 p.m., with Daniel Chavez (College of San Mateo) scheduled as the starting pitcher for Bend. Klamath Falls will send Cody Edwards (Bellevue JC) to the mound at Kiger Stadium.
