Dayton Gems News Release

Both the Dayton Gems and the Fort Wayne Komets struggled to record a goal in Wednesday night's CHL match-up. Neither team was able to record a goal until Dan Lapointe scored in the third period to give the Komets a 1-0 win.

The loss marked the first time since February 20 that the Gems were shutout. In the February 20 game, Dayton was defeated 4-0 by the Komets.

The Gems started the game off hot, taking 14 shots at the Komets' goal in the opening period. Dayton struggled to get shots off for the remainder of the game as the Gems finished with 27 shots on goal for the evening.

While the game didn't feature much offense, there was plenty of defense throughout the night. Derek MacIntyre recorded 35 saves for the Gems while Nick Boucher had a perfect night in front of the goal for the Komets, stopping all 27 shots the Gems took.

The only flaw by either goaltender came in the third period when MacIntyre allowed the night's only goal to Lapointe with just 5:28 remaining in the game.

Despite the loss, MacIntyre had one of his best games of the season. The 35 saves in the game were the fourth most for MacIntyre this season, and it was the fourth time he held his opponent to just one goal in a game.

The Gems will wrap-up the regular season with a pair of home games against Quad City starting on Friday, March 25. The game will start at 7:30 p.m.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
