Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release

The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees in conjunction with the Central Hockey League (CHL) are proud to announce that Killer Bees forward Aaron Lewicki has been selected as the CHL Rookie of the Year. Lewicki leads all rookies in the CHL in goals, assists, and points. Lewicki is the first Killer Bee to earn the honor.

"It is a great honor for Aaron to be recognized by the Central Hockey League. He has been an integral part of our team all season. Aaron can be counted on in all situations and has proven to be a consistent threat for us all season. His drive, habits, and commitment are qualities that separate him from others." Said Killer Bees coach Chris Brooks.

Lewicki has collected numerous awards this season including being named to the CHL All-Rookie team and was the Killer Bees representative at the 2011 CHL All-Star game.

Through 60 games Lewicki has scored 22 goals with 28 assists and has a 10 point lead over any other rookie in points and five more goals than his nearest freshman.

Lewicki joined the Bees after training camp and started the season on the injured reserve list. Lewicki scored his first professional goal on October 29 against the Wichita Thunder in Lewicki's second game of the season and scored what turned out to be the Cricket Mayor's Cup clinching goal against the Laredo Bucks on February 26.

The Killer Bees are set to finish their season this weekend hosting the Missouri Mavericks on Friday night and the Texas Brahmas on Saturday night. Both games are underway at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are available by calling 843-PUCK (7825) or visiting killerbeehockey.com.
