Dayton Gems News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Gems professional hockey team returns home to Cassano's Italian Ice at Hara Arena to host the Missouri Mavericks for the first time this season.

For the Gems (6-5-4), tonight's meeting with the "Mavs" is the first matchup between the two clubs since Dayton handed Missouri a 6-2 decision inside the historic Hara Arena back in match. Both teams continue the three-in-three series with a pair of games in Missouri tomorrow and Saturday. This is the second three game consecutive series against the same club of the season for the Gems, as they played a prior three-in-three against Evansville on November 11, 12 and 13th.

Game Day In Dayton

Dayton skates into tonight's game boasting a winning record, but the Gems have been far more successful away from Cassano's Italian Ice, with the Gems carrying a 4-2-2 record on the road and a 2-3-2 record at home.

Special teams have also been a roller coaster this season, with the penalty kill ranked last in the CHL while the powerplay continues to be a boost for the Gems offense despite falling to 19.8% for 11th in the circuit. Missouri's powerplay enters tonight's game one spot lower than the Gems at 17.1% while their penalty kill is ranked fourth best in the league at 82.6%.

Tonight, the Gems look to improve their home record in front of the Gem City faithful, while the Mavs look to extend their impressive road record of 7-2-1.

Gems Welcome Fukala

The Dayton Gems professional hockey team, a proud member of the Central Hockey League, announced that they have signed forward Kevin Fukala.

Coming to the Gems after appearing in 5 games with the Mississippi RiverKings of the Southern Professional Hockey League, the 26 year old Elgin, Illinois native registered one goal and 19 penalty minutes.

Last season, Fukala split time between the ECHL with Florida, the CHL in Bloomington and the "single-A" SPHL with Augusta respectively. Prior to turning professional, Fukala spent four seasons playing for the University of Central Oklahoma in the ACHA.
