
Gems fall to Quad City

Tonight the Gems traveled to the i-Wireless Center in Moline, Illinois to face the Quad City Mallards. Quad City owned the 1st period; Each time the Gems were shorthanded, the Mallards capitalized. With 3 Quad powerplay goals, the period ended 3 - 0. The Mallards started the 2nd period scoring after only 20 seconds on the ice. The Gems worked hard outshooting the Mallards 22 to 6 and scoring when Justin McCutcheon found the net after the halfway point of the 2nd with assists by Team Captain Greg Labenski and Joe Van Culin. In the 3rd with 14:33 played, Gems veteran John Snowden scored his 21st goal of the season unassisted. However, Quad City would sew the evening up, scoring with less than 3 minutes left to play and finish ahead of Dayton 5 - 2.
There's still plenty of Gems action at Hara with 10 home games left and plenty of evenings to cheer on the team.
Tomorrow at Hara Arena the Dayton Gems take on the Quad City Mallards at 730p. That evening the Gems welcome all area Youth Hockey Groups. Youth Hockey teams, friends and families will be invited to bring groups and enjoy an evening of professional hockey. Fund raising programs are available.
That evening is also National Heritage Academies Night - The Gems welcome students, teachers, staff and families of: The Emerson Academy of Dayton, The North Dayton School of Discovery and Pathway School of Discovery. The North Dayton School of Discovery Performance Chorus under the direction of Dr. Quintin Jordan will be performing the National Anthem.
This Wednesday, March 10th at 7pm when the Gems meet the Flint Generals at Hara Arena it's another exciting evening of hockey and $1 beers. The Gems City Roller Girls will be in attendance to offer information about their season and introduce themselves to the Gems fans.
Upcoming events include: Teacher Appreciation Night, Dayton Chamber of Commerce Night, Scouts Night, Skate with the Team, Trading Card Nights, An evening with the King - Elvis Tribute Concert following the game, Singles Night - sponsored by Single Source News, Generation Dayton Night, Restaurant Employees Night, Jersey Auctions and visits from the Gem City Roller Girls and Bud Girls. Don't forget all Wednesdays are Dollar Beer night and Frothy Fridays have $2 drafts.
Monday evenings join the Gems at Fox and Hound in Beavercreek at 9pm as they become Dayton Icon judges. Thursdays have lunch with the players at Brixx downtown. See you at noon!
