Quad City Mallards News Release

MOLINE, Ill. - Juris Stals scored two goals and picked up two assists and Jerad Kaufmann made 44 saves as the host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, defeated the Dayton Gems 5-2 Friday night.

The Mallards jumped out to a 3-0 lead by converting their first three power plays. Stals opened the scoring by pouncing on a rebound at 10:07 of the first period. Quad City was up two men when Stals buried another rebound at 18:20 of the first. A mere 23 seconds later the lead stretched to 3-0 when Tyler Kindle scored a third man advantage goal from the blue line.

The Mallards got their first even strength goal and compounded the Gems' woes just 20 seconds into the second period when Mike Zbriger roofed a rebound.

Justin McCutcheon's rebound goal at 11:58 of the second period got Dayton on the scoreboard for the first time. Kaufmann's efforts were major reason why the Gems did not drawn even closer in the second- the Quad City goaltender made 21 saves in the middle frame.

The Gems would cut the margin to 4-2 in third period when John Snowden scored from the high slot at 14:33, but the Mallards finished off the win just over three minutes later when White deposited a rebound in the back of the net.
