Brandon Kaleniecki gave the Icehawks the lead at 4:01 of the second period when his shot bounced past Lumberjacks goalie Matt Lundin. Muskegon tied the game three minutes later as Robin Bouchard found the back of the net, but Port Huron regained the lead when Kaleniecki scored his second goal of the period at 15:18. The teams once again tied with 12 shots on goal apiece in the period.
An exciting third period began with a power play goal for Muskegon's Mario Larocque just 1:14 into the period. The Icehawks responded, getting the most of a two-man advantage with two power play goals just 42 seconds apart by Derek Patrosso and Nick Lindberg. Protecting the lead for Port Huron, Mickael Bedard responded to a David Rohlfs goal with one of his own less than 30 seconds later at 8:39 of the third period. Brandon Naurato tallied the game's final goal with an empty net score with just seven seconds remaining in the game.
