Dayton Gems News Release

DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Gems had their two game winning streak against the Fort Wayne Komets snapped on Wednesday night with a final score of 3-2. It was a rough and tumble affair with some hard play and hard checking throughout the night, along with both goaltenders, Derek MacIntyre of Dayton and Nick Boucher of the Komets, trying their hardest to defend their posts.

In the opening period the Gems picked up where they left off and nearly potted the game's first goal, but goaltender Nick Boucher made some big saves. The Komets scored the lone goal when David Hukalo netted one on the power play.

After the Komets made it 2-0 to start the second period, the Gems raced back with two goals less than three minutes apart, beginning with Jonathan Ornelas scoring shorthanded from Sam Bloom and followed by Dan Lapointe tying the game up when he scored from Matt Szypura and Derek Parker. However, the game did not stay tied for very long as just a minute later, the Komets retook the lead with a 3-2 score.

As the third period progressed and nearly came to a close, the Gems were called for a penalty, subsequently pulling their goaltender looking for the equalizer. Dayton had a couple of good shots on the Komets but failed to score. Although both teams fought valiantly, neither scored during the final period as the Komets held on to beat Dayton 3-2 at Hara Arena in front of the crowd of 2,117.

The Gems had an opportunity to move into the fourth and final playoff spot in the IHL Standings with a victory but failed to do so; however, they are still two points away from fourth place team Bloomington. With this win, the Komets pulled back into third place.

The Gems will face Port Huron Sunday, January 3rd at 5pm to open 2010. All adult seats are $10 and students and children $7.See you at Hara! For further information, contact Jill Sanders - Director of Media and Public Relations at (937) 275-7777 or jill@daytongems.net.
