Dayton Gems News Release

The Dayton Gems' defense was able to hold Rapid City to three goals in the second game of their CHL Playoff series. Unfortunately, Dayton's offense was unable to do much scoring of its own as the Rush defeated the Gems 3-1 on Saturday night.

The Rush now lead the best-of-five series 2-0.

The Rush only allowed the Gems to take 25 shots on goal for the evening. Chris Lipsett was the only Gems player to record a goal for the evening, and that didn't come until late in the third period.

The Gems had their chances with six powerplays on the evening. Despite having the opportunities, Dayton was only able to score once.

Derek MacIntyre had the best performance for the Gems. The goaltender recorded 27 saves, with his only hiccups coming in the opening moments of the first and second period.

Brendon Hodge scored the first goal of the game just 1:58 into the first period to give Rapid City a 1-0 advantage. Vladimir Hartinger assisted Hodge on the powerplay goal.

The second period started off much like the first period. This time Konrad Reeder scored just a matter of seconds into the period and gave the Rush a 2-0 lead.

Dayton's lone goal of the game came in the last half of the third period. Lipsett scored with just 3:28 remaining in the game to make it a 2-1 game.

That would be all the closer the Gems would get as Rapid City recorded an empty net goal in the final moments of the game to make the final score 3-1.

Both teams will head to Dayton for Game 3 on Tuesday, April 5. The game will start at 7 p.m. at Hara Arena.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
