Dayton Gems News Release

Fort Worth, TX - Despite a solid effort throughout by Gems netminder Larry Sterling, late period goals by the hometown Texas Brahmas in the second and third periods would secure a 2-0 Dayton loss on Wednesday night inside the NYTEX Center in suburban Fort Worth, Texas.

After a scoreless and thrilling end to end first period, the Gems would continue to rely on veteran netminder Larry Sterling throughout the middle stanza. As the period continued into the closing minutes, a scramble in front of Sterling would give Texas's Chad Woollard a clear rebound opportunity, as he would blast a snapshot into the net to break the scoring tie with just 1:53 left. Dayton skated into the second intermission trailing the Brahmas 1-0 on the scoresheet and outshot 29-16 through forty minutes of play.

The Gems would have the advantage of key powerplay chances in the third period, but would be unable to beat Texas netminder Mark Guggenberger through sixty minutes. The Gems best chance came in the final two minutes of regulation, on the powerplay and with the extra attacker, the effort would backfire to give the Brahmas a shorthanded empty netter with just four seconds remaining to seal the 2-0 final score. Shots on goal in the third period favored the Gems, but they would ultimately finish the night outshot by the hometown Brahmas 38-27 after a full sixty minutes.

With the loss, the Gems record falls to 16-24-9 and slide their winless streak to two games heading into their return home on Friday night against Allen.

The Gems return home to host the Allen Americans on Cassano's Italian Ice inside Hara Arena this Friday at 7pm and then the Bloomington Blaze on Cassano's Italian Ice this Saturday night at 7pm.

Tickets to both upcoming Gems home games this weekend are available now by calling the Gems ticket office at 275-7777 or by visiting the new www.DaytonGems.com .
