August 6, 2011 - West Coast League (WCL)
Klamath Falls Gems News Release

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore - The Klamath Falls Gems pushed the Bend Elks around Friday night at Kiger Stadium, riding season-highs in runs and hits in beating the Elks 14-6 in front of 1,214 fans. Three separate Gems had four hits each and the victory pushed Bend a half-game behind Cowlitz in the WCL West playoff race.

Gems starting pitcher Hunter Greenwood (Cal Sacramento) had one of his best outings of the year. Greenwood threw five and two-thirds innings and only gave up four runs off eight hits while striking out six. Gems All-Star Turner Gill (U of Portland) went four-for-four at the plate with four singles and a walk, also stole three bases. Shortstop Graham Saiko and DH Bo Cornish also had four hits each in leading a 20-hit attack. The hit total set a record, as did the 14 runs scored, for the Gems this season. The Gems also scored five runs in the eighth inning, beating their old single inning run total by one.

The Gems will host the Bend Elks in the final two home games of the 2011 season Saturday and Sunday at Kiger Stadium.

The Gems are members of the West Coast League, a nine-team professional style wood-bat summer college league. The WCL features pro prospects from major conferences across the country.
