Flint Firebirds News Release

FLINT, Mich. - USA Hockey announced on Monday that Firebirds forward Gavin Hayes has been named to the preliminary roster for the 2024 U.S. National Junior Team.

Hayes and the rest of the roster will participate in training camp at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan beginning on Dec. 14. The final roster will be announced before the team departs for the 2024 IHF World Junior Championship, which will take place in Gothenburg, Sweden from Dec. 26 - Jan 5. All U.S. games throughout the tournament will be televised on the NHL network. The USA took bronze in the 2023 World Junior Championship in Canada.

Hayes, who is signed to an entry level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, has played in 25 games for the Firebirds this season and leads the team in both goals with 19 and points with 35. His 19 goals are tied for the fifth most in the OHL and he is currently on a seven-game point streak. The Westland, Michigan native is the only American-born player on the Firebirds roster.

Flint will return to action on Saturday night at home against the Saginaw Spirit. The team will be wearing specialty Christmas-inspired jerseys that will be auctioned off live postgame with proceeds benefitting the Old Newsboys of Flint. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Dort Financial Center.
