Gary Gait Named Player Of The Week

January 14, 2009 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release

Rochester's Gary Gait has been named Overall Player of the Week. The legend showed no signs of rust in his return to the NLL as he notched five goals, including the 600th of his career, on eight shots against Philadelphia. Gait converted three of his scores while on the powerplay and added five loose balls in the Knighthawks' 16-13 home loss at Blue Cross Arena.

New York's Pat Maddalena has been named Offensive Player of the Week after his robust stat line in New York's 19-14 victory over the expansion Boston Blazers. The "Mad Man" finished his night with four goals, seven assists and seven loose balls in helping to spoil Boston's first ever game.

Buffalo's Ken Montour has been named Defensive Player of the Week. The Buffalo goaltender helped stifle the Rock attack Saturday night in the Bandits' 8-6 road-win in Toronto. Montour's efforts included a final stat line of six goals against and 38 saves.

Portland's Brodie Merrill has been named Transition Player of the Week following his strong performance in his team's home-and-home series against the Colorado Mammoth. Merrill finished the weekend with two goals, four assists and 33 loose balls in two games, highlighted by his 19 loose ball performance Saturday at Colorado.

Philadelphia's Sean Thomson has been named Rookie of the Week. Thomson's three goals on four shots were the difference in the Wings' 16-13 victory over Rochester.

The Weekly Player Awards are determined by a vote of the General Managers and Head Coaches of the league's 12 teams.
