Madison Capitols News Release

Middleton, WI - The Madison Capitols announce that Head Coach & General Manager Garrett Suter will be stepping down from the USHL organization on Monday. The decision comes as part of a restructuring plan to help focus efforts on the development of the Madison Capitols Tier 1 AAA youth program.

"With three of my own kids getting older, and my oldest, Sawyer, getting to the age where he can play for our AAA program, this just seemed like the perfect time to make the transition back to the youth side," Suter said.

Suter will reassume the role of president of the Madison Capitols Tier 1 AAA program, a previously held position, as well as becoming the director of hockey operations. He will also continue to coach within the youth program.

"In this role, I can refocus on what our dad built by raising the standards and reestablishing our place as one of the top Tier 1 AAA youth programs in the country," says Suter.

Suter spent the past four seasons behind the bench for the Capitols USHL program, leading them through the transition in 2017 to Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena until the cancellation of the 2019-20 campaign.

Prior to serving as head coach & general manager of the Capitols USHL team, Suter was heavily involved in the Capitols AAA program, serving as president and head coach of their Boys U18 team. As a coach, Suter was instrumental in the development of players, including Cole Hults (Penn State & NHL 4th Rd Pick, LA), Mick Messner (UW-Madison), Carson Bantle (Michigan Tech), and Dryden Mackay (Minnesota State).

The Capitols are currently in the process of interviewing candidates for Head Coach and General Manager of the USHL organization.

The Madison Capitols would like to thank coach Suter for his time, dedication, and efforts over the past four years, and look forward to seeing the positive impact on the future of the Capitols youth program's young players.
