Garcia Shines Bright in Complete Game

Laredo, TX - Laredo Lemurs (47-41) starting pitcher Justin Garcia (1-1) goes the distance in a 5-0 win over the Sioux City Explorers (31-57) Wednesday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.

Garcia got off to a hot start against the Explorers hitters, retiring seven straight before giving up a base hit to Alberto Espinosa. At one point in the game Garcia retired 10 straight batters and put the Explorers down in order six times. On the night, Garcia went nine, without giving up a run, on four hits, with one walk, and five strikeouts.

This was the sixth shutout thrown by Lemurs pitchers this year and the third complete game shutout thrown by a starter. The other two that went the distance include Fabian Williamson and Greg Wilborn.

Jimmy Mojica had a hot night for the Lemurs hitting a home run in each of his first two at bats. Stephen Douglas also pitched with the bat, hitting a home run in the eighth, and scoring a run in the sixth. Douglas ended the night with two hits, two runs, and an RBI.

Sioux City starter Cody Hall (0-1) took the loss, going seven, giving up four runs, on seven hits, with four walks, and a strikeout.

Thursday night will be last scheduled home game for the Laredo Lemurs in the 2013 season. They will take on the Sioux City Explorers starting at 7:30pm at Uni-Trade Stadium. For tickets call 956-7LEMURS or visit LaredoLemurs.com.
