Danville Otterbots News Release

DANVILLE, Va. - The D-Braves dropped their second straight contest Monday 5-2 to the Cardinals from Johnson City. Cardinals' third baseman Ronnierd Garcia had a huge night for the Cardinals, driving in five runs and launching his fourth homerun of the season.

Michael Flores had an excellent outing for Danville as he fanned eight batters, one shy of his season high that came June 21 against the Princeton Rays in his first start of the season. He allowed just five hits but one of them was a two run homer by Garcia that put the Cardinals up 2-0.

Danville cut the lead in half in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single by Connor Lien, his second of three hits in the contest, that scored Victor Reyes from third base.

Garcia knocked in his third run of the contest in the seventh on an RBI single to center in which leadoff man Vaughn Bryan sprinted home to score without a throw. Danville countered in the bottom half of the inning with another RBI by Lien to score Reyes coming on a groundout to second base.

With the score 3-2 in the ninth, Danville chose to intentionally walk Justin Ringo to pitch to the hot hitting Garcia with the bases loaded. The decision did not bode well for the D-Braves as Garcia doubled down the right field line to put the Cardinals up 5-2. Lien started a potential rally in the ninth with a leadoff single, but a Blake Brown strikeout and a Joe Odom double play ended any chances for Danville to comeback.

On a positive note for the D-Braves, Mikey Reynolds returned to the lineup for the first time since August 10 when he was hit in the shoulder against the White Sox. The infielder went 1-for-3 in his return to the lineup for Danville.

The two teams will play in the final home game for the D-Braves tomorrow starting at 11:00 a.m. on a special D.A.R.E. Day for local middle schools to come out and enjoy the game. Matt Marksberry takes the mound tomorrow looking to avoid a sweep while lefty Nick Lomascolo will look to finish off Danville in the series.
