Stockton Lightning News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Lightning of the arenafootball2 league have announced a one-year radio play-by-play broadcast renewal agreement for 2008 Lightning home, away and ArenaCup Playoff games on 1420 KSTN AM.
"We're looking forward to another exciting season of Lightning football on KSTN," said Lightning president Dan Chapman. "KSTN is a great radio partner and we know our fans enjoy following the team both here at the Stockton Arena and on KSTN."
"KSTN 1420 is pleased to continue our relationship with the Stockton Lightning," said 1420 KSTN AM general manager Robert LaRue. "Stockton is a great local sports market and we consider it a privilege to provide the radio broadcasts to the Lightning's loyal fan base."
All broadcasts are scheduled to begin 15 minutes prior to opening kick-off with the Lightning pre-game show and end with the Lightning post-game wrap-up.
Beginning this season, all Lightning games will be available for viewing at www.stocktonlightning.com through an online stream via NifTy Online Television, free-of-charge. NFT's innovative video broadcasting solution incorporates a downloadable player that streams content directly to the viewer's computer desktop.
With the ability to reach geographically diverse and unlimited audiences, at a fraction of the bandwidth cost of other online broadcasting technologies, NFT's platform is a viable solution for many content providers who want to deliver high quality live television-style programming that is free of charge to viewers. Previously af2 fans were only able to view games online on a pay-per-view basis.
1420 KSTN AM enters its second season in a radio broadcast agreement with the Lightning, also serving as home to the Stockton Thunder ECHL hockey team, Stockton Ports minor league baseball team, California Cougars indoor soccer and Pacific Athletics. Mike Benton, who is also the radio play-by-play announcer for the ECHL's Stockton Thunder, will handle radio play-by-play duties for the third consecutive season with the Lightning and will be joined in the booth by color commentator Steve McElroy, who also serves Sacramento State University's athletic department with various broadcast roles.
Returning to the broadcast team for his second straight year is local Northern California fan-favorite and former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver J.J. Stokes, who will contribute with additional color commentary on select Lightning broadcasts.
A veteran of nine seasons in the National Football League, Stokes spent his first eight years with the San Francisco 49ers and his most recent 2003 campaign with the World Champion New England Patriots, garnering 30 touchdown receptions and 4,293 receiving yards in his career. The Lightning start the 2008 campaign beginning Friday, March 28, taking the road against the Tri-Cities Fever with kick-off slated at 7:00 p.m. The 2008 Lightning home opener is Saturday, April 12 against the Boise Burn, beginning at 7:00 p.m. from Stockton Arena. Both games can be heard on radio at 1420 KSTN AM and viewed online, free-of-charge at www.stocktonlightning.com (courtesy of NifTy Online TV).
Season tickets and group tickets for the 2008 Lightning regular season are on sale now. For more information on season tickets, merchandise, or other information, please call the Lightning at (209) 373-1500 or visit www.stocktonlightning.com.
