Central Valley Coyotes News Release

Fresno-The Central Valley Coyotes will take their af2 leading offense of a year ago in to Bossier-Shreveport Louisiana Saturday as their 2008 season kicks off against the Battlewings.

After posting a solid 10-6 regular season record in 2007, Central Valley was off to Manchester New Hampshire for the first round of the af2 playoffs. With two seconds left on the clock in Manchester, a historic moment in Coyotes history took place. Kicker Mikael Bjork sent a 19-yard field goal through the 9 feet wide uprights to give Central Valley their first playoff victory.

The Coyotes didn't fair so well the next week, falling to the eventual American Conference Champion Wilkes Barre/Scranton Pioneers. However, the gauntlet had been thrown down and the Coyotes had success to look back on, and momentum to carry them forward. Since the start of the 2005 season, Central Valley has scored more points, averaged more points per season, and averaged more points per game than any other team in the af2. The Coyotes look to continue that trend in 2008.

With the addition of new offensive weapons like WR Nichiren Flowers (Tulare Union, University of Nevada) and QB Joe Ayoob (City College of San Francisco, Cal) Central Valley looks to have reloaded nicely for the '08 Campaign.

However, don't forget the '07 holdovers. WR Jason Barnes returns to the Coyotes for his second season, bringing with him 1,477 receiving yards and 37 TD receptions. WR Tonae Martin is also back for year two in a Coyotes uniform. The second part of Central Valley's dynamic receiving duo, Martin posted 1,051 receiving yards and hauled in 20 TD's in 2007.

Chowchilla's own WR/LB Weston Borba is also back for his fifth season with Central Valley. Borba, the Coyotes elder statesman, will undoubtedly benefit for the new rule which allows the Jack Linebacker to roam sideline to sideline in his five yard cushion, rather than being confined to the "Jack Box" until the QB releases the ball.

The Coyotes begin their 2008 home schedule on April 26th at Selland Arena. Kickoff will be at 7:00pm and the first 2,000 fans will receive 2008 Coyotes schedule magnets, sponsored by EYE-Q Vision Center.
