North Shore Honu News Release
Mat Gamel cranked a grand slam in the fifth inning to lift the visiting North Shore Honu over the Honolulu Sharks, 7-3, tonight at Maui's Iron Maehara Stadium. The blast was Gamel's league-leading third on the young Hawaii Winter Baseball season, and the go-ahead homer helped the Honu improve to 4-1 on the season while the Sharks fell to 2-3.
Gamel also notched a double on the evening in addition to his 4 RBIs. Michael Griffin and Jonathan Lucroy each chipped in three hits in the winning effort.
Ronald Hill (1-0) earned the victory after tossing 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Sharks hurler Chad Thall (0-1) took the loss.
The same two teams have an off day tomorrow as they travel back to Oahu. The two squads will go at it again in another three-game set that gets underway Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Hans L'Orange Park.
