North Shore Honu News Release

North Shore and West Oahu played to a 6-6 tie this afternoon in seven innings at Hans L'Orange Park.

The CaneFires (16-14) remained 3 ½ games ahead of the Honu (13-18) in the race for Hawaii Winter Baseball's West Division. With four games remaining in the regular season, West Oahu needs only to win one of those contests in order to secure a spot in the HWB Championship Game on November 16.

Mark Hallberg went 3-4 with a three-run home run and two runs scored in support of West Oahu, and Tyler Henson chipped in two of the squads 11 base hits.

The CaneFires took a 6-3 lead in the home half of the sixth on Hallberg's home run, but the bullpen could not hold the lead as North Shore rallied for three runs in the seventh. The Honu knotted the game at 6-6 thanks in part to three straight fielding errors by the West Oahu defense, coupled with a Matt McBride double that scored Corey Brown with the tying run.

Brown also hit his third home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth inning, while McBride led the way for North Shore with two hits on the afternoon.

West Oahu starter Chris Cody threw five scoreless innings through which he allowed a hit and struck out two. North Shore starter Jose Capellan tossed four innings and struck out five in addition to allowing a run on four hits.

The teams have a scheduled day off Monday, and return to action on Tuesday.
