North Shore Honu News Release

North Shore picked up a wire-to-wire 5-1 victory over Honolulu tonight at Les Murakami Stadium. With its third straight win, North Shore improves to 11-14 and moves to within a game of West Oahu's Hawaii Winter Baseball West Division lead.

The Honu wasted no time getting on the board, as leadoff man Corey Brown reached on an infield single and Kyle Martin smacked a home run over the wall in left-center field to put North Shore up 2-0 in the first inning. The blast was Martin's league-leading sixth long ball of the season.

North Shore added two more runs in the third frame as Matt McBride scored on a Lars Davis passed ball, and a bases-loaded walk from Honolulu starter Josh Stinson that forced Chris Carter in from third base. It later plated an insurance run in the fifth inning as Kyu Hyun Moon drove in Carter on his team-high second hit of the game.

Honolulu (13-12) got its lone run in the home half of the inning as Tony Cruz singled up the middle to plate Ruben Tejada.

Michael Taylor of the Philadelphia Phillies paced the Sharks with two base hits.

Honu starter Jun Hyeok Heo (1-3) notched the win, tossing three innings through which he allowed a run on four hits.

Stinson (2-2) took the loss after allowing four runs on three hits and walking six through 2 2/3 innings.

The squads return to Les Murakami Stadium tomorrow for the second contest in a three-game set.
