North Shore Honu News Release

Waipahu, HI

North Shore allowed four hits, and rode Kyle Martin's three-run home run to a 6-3 victory over West Oahu this afternoon in a seven inning contest at Hans L'Orange Park.

The win was North Shore's second in a three-game series with the CaneFires, and the victory allowed the Honu to move within two games of West Oahu's Hawaii Winter Baseball West division lead.

Martin paced the Honu with a game-high two hits and three RBIs, and teammate Chris Carter doubled to aid North Shore's seven-hit attack.

Tyler Henson gave the CaneFires (12-12) a 3-2 advantage in the third frame with a bases-clearing three-run triple with two outs. The three-bagger was the Baltimore prospect's third triple of the season.

However, the Honu (10-14) struck back in the home half of the inning on Martin's blast that he drilled into the trees past the fence in left field. The long ball was Martin's league-leading fifth of the season, and it provided North Shore with a 5-3 advantage.

The Honu added an insurance run in the sixth frame when Corey Brown came home on a Kurt Mertins sacrifice fly to right field.

Chris Hicks (2-0) notched the win after tossing 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Jason Godin. Hicks, of the Houston Astros, struck out two and gave way to Matt Meyer who picked up his first save after closing out the game's final two innings without allowing a run.

Timothy Bascom fell to 1-3 after surrendering five runs on four hits through three innings while striking out four.

North Shore travels to Les Murakami Stadium for a three-game series with Honolulu running from tomorrow through Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

West Oahu hosts Waikiki at Hans L'Orange Park in a three-game set beginning tomorrow. First pitch is slated for 7 p.m.
