PORTLAND, MAINE -- Lefty Justus Sheffield matched the longest outing of his career with 6.2 innings of one-run ball in the Thunder's 6-2 win over the Portland Sea Dogs on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field.
The win was the seventh in a row for the Thunder and improved their record to the best in Double-A at 32-16.
Sheffield allowed his lone run, unearned, in the third inning when Rafael Devers beat out a potential inning-ending double play ball for the game's first run. Following a leadoff single by Jessie Barfield in the fourth, Sheffield retired 10 straight batters before allowing a single to Josh Tobias which ended his outing after 6.2 innings. Sunday was the third time in Sheffield's career that he went 6.2 innings in a start, he struck out six and allowed three hits and one walk in the victory. J.P. Feyereisen finished the game with 2.1 innings of relief behind Sheffield.
Trenton's offense broke through in the fifth inning against Teddy Stankiewicz with an RBI single from Abiatal Avelino (2-for-4, RBI). With the game tied at one, the Thunder got hits and runs scored from each of the first four men who stepped to the plate in the sixth inning to take a commanding 5-1 lead.
Miguel Andujar, 3-for-4 with a double and a solo home run, extended the lead with his fifth home run of the season in the seventh inning.
