Everett Silvertips News Release
MOOSE JAW, Saskatchewan - Carter Hart recorded the 18th shutout of his career on 31 saves and goals by Devon Skoleski and Eetu Tuulola were all the offense the Everett Silvertips needed in a 2-0 victory over the host Moose Jaw Warriors, before 3,337 fans at Mosaic Place in WHL action on Saturday.
Leveling the record to 1-1 on their six game East Division swing, the Silvertips won their fourth game in a row over the Warriors and Hart has patched together a stretch of 120:00 of shutout hockey, logging his WHL leading 8th shutout this season. Hart has shut out Moose Jaw in back to back meetings, and the Silvertips have not allowed a goal to the Warriors since Jan. 9, 2015 - a span of 156:53.
Hart is now three behind the all-time Silvertips leader, Leland Irving, who has 21 shutouts.
With the Silvertips outshooting Moose Jaw 9-2 in the opening minutes, Skoleski's 11th goal of the season at 10:18 broke the scoreless tie on a point shot by Noah Juulsen that ricocheted off Skoleski at the crease.
Tuulola, collecting his second goal in 24 hours, lifted the Tips to a 2-0 advantage at 10:13 of the second period. One shift after surviving a headshot by Tanner Jeannot, Tuulola was the recipient of a highlight reel passing sequence. Devon Skoleski wound through the neutral zone and whipped a cross-ice pass to Connor Dewar, cruising to the left circle.
Dewar then threaded a tape-to-tape backdoor pass to Tuulola at the right post.
Moose Jaw delivered their biggest threat in the third period with 15 shots, but Hart calmly turned away each threat and a 6-on-5 sequence in the last minute of regulation.
His counterpart, Zach Sawchenko, made 32 saves to take the loss in the battle of last season's all-WHL first team goaltenders.
