MISL Kansas City Comets

Game Preview: Comets Host Rochester Seeking Fifth Straight Win

February 17, 2012 - Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL)
Kansas City Comets News Release

INDEPENDENCE, MISSOURI - The Comets can officially lay claim to the title of "Hottest Team in the Major Indoor Soccer League". Winners of four straight games to clinch a playoff berth, the team is back in action Sunday at the Independence Events Center, hosting Rochester at 3:10pm. The game is the first of three straight at home to conclude the Comets 2011-12 regular season.

Included in the Comets winning streak is consecutive victories over the two division leaders, Baltimore and Milwaukee. Now 13-8 overall, the Comets are still mathematically alive for a Central Division title, though the team would need to win all remaining games and have Milwaukee lose its final six just to forge a tie. Whichever team ultimately wins the division, the playoff match-up is set. The Comets will host Game 1 of the Central Division Finals on Friday, March 9 at 7:35pm with Milwaukee hosting Game 2 on March 11. If the teams split the first two games, Game 3 would be a 15-minute mini-game immediately following Game 2 to determine the representative in the MISL Championship Series. Playoff tickets are on sale now at www.cometsindoorsoccer.com.

Midfielder Geison still has a firm grip on the 2011-12 MISL scoring title. The MISL Offensive Player of the Month in January has 74 points on the year, 14 ahead of teammate Byron Alvarez in second place. Geison currently sports an 18-game scoring streak.

Third in the scoring title chase with 59 points is Rochester's Mauricio Salles. He and teammate Doug Miller have provided the Lancers a two-man scoring punch all year. Miller is on a hot streak, netting five goals and 12 total points in Rochester's last three games and now has 56 for the year. The Lancers are in the thick of the best playoff race in the MISL, currently holding a mere 0.5-game lead over Syracuse for the second spot in the Eastern Division Finals to face Baltimore.

The Comets had just two games with the Lancers on the schedule this year. The Comets won the previous meeting in Rochester on November 12 by a score of 13-4.

Sunday the Comets are celebrating a "Day of Giving". The team will be highlighting five charities and asking for help from the fans to support one or more of these great causes. Complete information on items sought for donation at the IEC is available at www.cometsindoorsoccer.com .
