Tacoma Defiance (2-8-1, 7 points) continues its road stint on Sunday evening with a match at Sacramento Republic FC (7-1-4, 25 points) at Papa Murphy's Park. The two sides previously met on July 13 (3-3 draw) and August 15 (3-1 SRFC win). Sunday's match was previously scheduled for Saturday, September 19, but was pushed back a day after the midweek match at Reno 1868 FC was delayed due to a positive COVID-19 test within the Defiance organization.

Defiance is currently amidst a six-match losing skid after beginning the USL restart with a three-match unbeaten streak. In the most recent result, Defiance fell 3-2 to Reno on September 17, with Tacoma goals scored by Abdoulaye Cissoko and Ray Serrano.
