NEWS & NOTES:

Last Game: The Winnipeg ICE snapped the Wheat Kings three game winning streak after a 4-1 ICE victory inside Wayne Fleming Arena last Sunday. It was a tight back and forth game until the 2nd period where the Wheat Kings allowed 3 goals allowing the ICE to coast their way to victory. Ben Zloty tied Regina Pats Stanisalv Svozil in defensive scoring with 73 points after picking up an assist. Leading the way for the ICE was Zack Ostapchuk who led the way with a 3 point night. ICE goaltender Daniel Hauser earned 2nd star stopping 31 of 32 shots faced. Lone goal for the Wheat Kings was scored by Nate Danielson early in the third. This would mark the 13th straight loss against the Winnipeg ICE. Last victory over the ICE was December 27th, 2021 when the Wheat Kings stormed back to defeat the ICE 5-4 in overtime. Chad Nychuk scored a pair of goals including the game winner.

March 15th VS Regina Pats : The Wheat Kings and Regina Pats meet for the 6th and final time this season. Last meeting was inside the Brandt Centre where Alexander Suzdelev took over the game scoring his first career hatrick. Stanislav Svozil earned 2nd star of the game picking up 1G-2A that evening. It was a game where the Wheat Kings had a stellar start to the game leading 3-1 after the first period but allowed 3 goals in the 2nd and 2 goals in the 3rd allowing the Pats to win 6-3. The Pats lead the season series 3-2. In the 3 games the Pats were victorious they got top performances from their goaltenders with Matthew Kieper stopping 51 of 52 shots back on October 5th, Drew Sim stopping 44 of 47 shots back on February 24th and then, February 25th, Kelton Pyne led the way stopping 35 of 38 shots.

Jiri's Time to Shine: Former Brandon Wheat Kings goaltender Jiri Patera made his NHL debut with the Vegas Golden Knights Sunday. Patera made 30 saves in a 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Blues to secure his first NHL win on his debut. A sixth-round pick in 2017, Patera became the first goaltender drafted by the Golden Knights to win a game. The 24-year-old played two seasons with the Wheat Kings where he went 46-32-6 with six shutouts, a .913 save percentage and a 2.95 GAA. As a pro, Patera previously played 56 AHL games with Henderson and also suited up 15 times with the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets.

Called Up: Wheat Kings Top Prospect Joby Baumuller has been called up and will remain with the Wheat Kings for the rest of the season. The former 12th overall pick, Baumuller finished tied for 4th overall in goal scoring as a 15-year-old in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA Hockey League this year. Baumuller scored his 1st career WHL goal in a 10-2 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings last Saturday night.

Who's Hot: Brett Hyland currently has 19 goals scored in his last 21 games. Forward Nate Danielson has been stellar as of late scoring 18 points in his last 14 games. Nolan Ritchie has 51 points in his last 42 games. Dawson Pasternak has 9 points in his last 8. Pasternak's 7 game point streak was snapped in Winnipeg Sunday..
