West Texas Roughnecks News Release
MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks return to action following their third and final bye week of the 2011 regular season as they travel to Arizona to face the Adrenaline on Saturday, May 7. Before taking a break from the field, the Roughnecks defeated the Amarillo Venom back on April 23, 66-23. QB Arkelon Hall is coming off one of his best performances of the season by throwing for 281 yards and recording six total touchdowns in the win over the Venom. Hall earned Vidswap.com IFL Offensive Player of the Week honors for Week 10 of the regular season as the Roughnecks defense compiled six total interceptions, including three from DB Marrio Norman in the win over Amarillo.
With six games remaining in the regular season the Roughnecks first-place lead in the Lone Star Division has been narrowed to a half-game over Allen. The Roughnecks (6-2) are making their longest trip of the season to face the Arizona Adrenaline (0-9). Arizona enters this Saturday averaging 21.6 points per game on offense as they match-up with a Roughnecks defensive unit that continues to lead the IFL in average yards allowed a game at 154.3. The Roughnecks will look to get pressure up front on the line with defensive linemen Jeramie Richardson & Ronnie Mason, and look for both Lantz Mathers & Jermaine Blakely to be the key factors at nose tackle in this match-up. The Roughnecks secondary will look to contend with an Adrenaline dual-quarterback system in Keith Poole and Dennis Havrilla. Poole leads Arizona with 451 yards passing and eight touchdown passes, but look for the Roughnecks secondary to use various coverage schemes to challenge the Adrenaline passing attack.
Offensively, the Roughnecks will continue to utilize the passing game with Arkelon Hall leading the way under center. WR Josh Floyd will be the go-to target on Saturday as he is coming off a three-touchdown performance against Amarillo. Look for WR Wilson Kimble to also be a factor against the Adrenaline secondary as he currently ranks second on the team with 28 receptions for 393 yards and six touchdown receptions. The Roughnecks rushing department had a big performance as well in the win over Amarillo by recording four rushing touchdowns, two from QB Arkelon Hall. Look for Roughnecks running backs Evin Jones & DeWayne Hogan to be key factors inside the red-zone, and look for Jones to be a key part to the passing game throughout the course of the ball game.
Look for early turnovers to be a key factor in this non-divisional match-up especially throughout the second-half as well as the play on special teams from both sides.
