Spartans Face Division Rival Blizzard

May 6, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
La Crosse Spartans News Release

La Crosse, WI: It's the battle of Wisconsin teams this weekend in Week 12 of the IFL season. Intra-state rivals La Crosse Spartans (4-5) and Green Bay Blizzard (6-2) will meet for the first time this year tomorrow night in Green Bay. Kickoff for tomorrow night's game is 7:30 p.m. at the Resch Center in Green Bay. It's the first meeting of two this month for the two teams. Green Bay will be in La Crosse on May 27th.

This weekend's matchup has even more meaning than just a divisional game. The two teams completed a three-player trade on April 27th with the Spartans sending WR Bryan Pray to the Blizzard in exchange for WR Aaron Rhea and DE Bernard Faithful. Both had been starters for the Blizzard while Pray was leading the Spartans in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns.

Rhea and Faithful were huge factors in the Spartans 51-0 win over Lehigh Valley last week. Rhea hauled in a 48-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Buddy Rivera while Faithful racked up seven tackles, 1.5 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, a blocked field goal and a forced fumble. Both are expected to start this weekend for the Spartans, who are trying to keep pace for the sixth and final playoff spot in the United Conference.

La Crosse will have to contend with a very strong Green Bay secondary and return game. BJ Hill is one of the most prolific defensive players and return men in the league having returned seven kicks for touchdowns this season. Arkeith Brown has racked up eight INT's this year for a Blizzard team that has registered 17 picks this season.
