February 21, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release

MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks kickoff the 2011 IFL regular season with a key divisional match-up at home versus the Oklahoma City Bricktown Brawlers on Monday, February 21. The Roughnecks will be looking to build off of their 2010 season in which the team finished 7-7 overall, winning five of their last six, and reaching the post-season for the sixth time in seven years. Some familiar faces return to the Roughnecks in 2011 especially on the defensive side. Leading-tackler and All-IFL First Team selection LB Eric Henri is back for his second season as well as DB Clarence Wright and DL Ronnie Mason. Veteran DL Jermaine Blakely returns for his sixth season with the organization as he will see playing time at both the nose tackle & defensive end positions this season.

In terms of up-and-coming first-year players, DB Anthony Beck will be a key factor for the Roughnecks secondary as well as DB Marrio Norman. Look for Rover Back Derrick Boyd to make an impact in providing pressure in the pocket as veterans Jeremiah Turner & Jeramie Richardson will be key up front on the line.

Switching to the offensive side, the Roughnecks will have a new leader at quarterback entering the 2011 season. Carlton Jackson has made strides in training camp this preseason as his ability to move around in the pocket and throw with accuracy has been key, however Arkelon Hall has progressed in camp and could see playing time. The Roughnecks have added RB Evin Jones this season who will provide speed to the running game. The receiving corp will feature returning veteran Josh Floyd, but look for wide outs Anthony Weeden and Wilson Kimble to make an impact in the passing game and on special teams.

The Bricktown Brawlers enter their first season as a member of the IFL, and they will be led offensively by former Georgia Tech QB Reggie Ball. Ball will look to utilize his mobility early on and look to receivers Alex Macey & Jahmeel Hobson for support in the passing game. The defense will be led by defensive back Edward Moore as LB Steven Allen and DL Robert Jackson will be key factors on the defensive line. Look for early turnovers to play an important role in this regular season opener as well as production in both the running & passing games in the second-half. This is the first of three meetings between both teams this season as the Roughnecks will make two trips to Oklahoma City later in the regular season. In addition, the first 1,000 fans will receive Roughnecks Rally Towels on Monday and the Roughnecks will donate one dollar to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for every ticket sold.
