May 13, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release
MIDLAND, TX. : Following two weeks on the road including a bye week, the West Texas Roughnecks (7-2) return to the Ector County Coliseum for a crucial Lone Star Divisional match-up with the Allen Wranglers (7-3) on Saturday, May 14. The Roughnecks enter Saturday with a half-game lead over the Wranglers in the division as both teams enter Saturday having won three straight. The season series is currently tied at one game apiece with this being the final meeting of the regular season and the first at the Ector County Coliseum. The Roughnecks defeated the Wranglers back in week two of the regular season 60-46 as the Wranglers defeated the Roughnecks back on April 8, 33-28.
The Roughnecks are coming off two impressive victories over the Amarillo Venom and the Arizona Adrenaline as the defensive unit recorded a combined 13 interceptions in both wins, and QB Arkelon Hall posted a combined 13 total touchdowns. Quick starts on offense and the play on defense will be key factors to look for in this match-up. In their last meeting, the Wranglers got out to an 8-0 lead as the Roughnecks started slow on offense. Look for the Roughnecks defensive line to play a major role on Saturday led up front by linemen Jeramie Richardson & Ronnie Mason, and look for linebackers Eric Henri & Tray Hardaway to be key factors in containing the Wranglers rushing attack.
Starting Wranglers QB Kewan Dewberry has been an important part to the Allen offense by throwing for 1,345 yards and 27 touchdowns this season. He will look to wide outs Dedrick Poole and Jason Jones for support in the passing game as both have combined for 77 receptions and 17 touchdown receptions in 2011. Poole had 44 receiving yards and two touchdowns in the previous match-up against the Roughnecks. Offensively, the Roughnecks passing game will be a key factor on Saturday led by QB Arkelon Hall who has thrown 35 touchdown passes to just six interceptions in 2011. Wide outs Josh Floyd & Wilson Kimble will be key targets for Hall but look for newly reacquired WR Eric Taylor to make an impact in the passing game as well.
Look for special teams play to be an important feature in this match-up especially with the kick return abilities of Roughnecks WR Josh Floyd, and Allen kicker Garrett Courtney who has recorded 23 field goals in 2011. In addition, look for Roughnecks running backs Evin Jones & DeWayne Hogan to play key roles inside the red-zone especially throughout the second-half.
