March 18, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release

MIDLAND, TX. : Following an extended break the West Texas Roughnecks (2-0) return to the road to face the Oklahoma City Bricktown Brawlers (1-2) on Sunday, March 20 in an afternoon Lone Star divisional match-up. For the Roughnecks, this is the second meeting in three games against the Brawlers. The Roughnecks defeated the Brawlers back on February 21, 39-22, as the Roughnecks defense posted six sacks and forced three turnovers in the win. Since then the Roughnecks have picked up a road win over the Allen Wranglers, 60-46 back on February 28, and the Brawlers recently recorded their first win of the season defeating Amarillo, 29-20, back on March 13.

In their previous meeting against the Brawlers, the Roughnecks defensive unit was the important factor especially on the line as both Jeramie Richardson & Jermaine Blakely combined for 3.5 sacks and 5.0 tackles-for-loss. The defense as a whole held then-starting quarterback Reggie Ball to 72 yards passing and recorded one interception, including shutting out the Brawlers offense in both the first & third quarters. The Roughnecks had a slow start to the game in terms of the offense but certainly developed in the second-half as QB Arkelon Hall threw for two scores, and running backs DeWayne Hogan & Evin Jones combined for four rushing touchdowns. Since then, the Roughnecks offense has continued to develop with a 60-point effort against Allen as Arkelon Hall threw for three touchdowns and Evin Jones recorded three rushing touchdowns.

For the Brawlers, look for new starting quarterback Nate Samas to be an important factor in Sunday's match-up as he led the Brawlers offense with 150 yards passing, 68 yards rushing, and two passing touchdowns in their recent win over Amarillo. RB Ben Birmingham will be another factor on the Brawlers offense as he posted a combined three total touchdowns including five catches for 15 yards in the loss to the Roughnecks back on February 21.

The Brawlers defense has also been productive as of late producing three sacks and three interceptions in their win over Amarillo. Billy Harrison recorded two of the three sacks last Sunday as the Brawlers have allowed just 32.7 points a game this season. Look for the play on defense from both sides to set the tone early in this game as turnovers and execution in the red-zone will be factors especially in the second-half.
