The Story Coming In

The Medicine Hat Tigers fell to the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-2 on Wednesday night. The Tabbies have a 1-2-0-0 record so far in their 2018-19 WHL campaign and have only faced Central Division rivals.

The Orange and Black continue their scoring by committee approach as seven different players have scored the team's 9 goals this season. James Hamblin (2), Bryan Lockner (2), Gary Haden (1), Elijah Brown (1), Ryan Jevne (1), Tyler Preziuso (1), Eric Van Impe (1).

Tigers vs. Raiders

The Tigers and the Prince Albert Raiders have not faced off since January 20th, 2018, which was decided in overtime with the Raiders coming out on top with a 3-2 victory. In the past five years, the Tigers have a 9-4-3-0 record against the Raiders including 3-2-1-0 record in Prince Albert.

The Raiders have had a strong start to their 2018-19 season winning both games against the Regina Pats during the WHL Opening Weekend. Friday night the Raiders hosted the Pats and defeated them 7-2 before travelling to Regina on Saturday and winning 3-1. Montreal's fifth-round (128th overall) draft pick Cole Fonstad is leading the team with 5 points (2G, 3A) and veteran forward Brett Leason is close behind with 4 points (2G, 2A).

Tigers Talent

Ryan Jevne is in his 4th season with the Orange and Black. The 20-year-old Edmonton product constantly demonstrates hard work and hustle. Jevne has deceptive speed and he is a smooth skating winger with a devastating shot that makes opposing goalies cringe. He has 2 points (1G, 1A) in 3 games played so far this season. Look for Jevne to make an impact on both ends of the ice tonight.

Captain's Corner

James Hamblin has been called upon to lead the 49th Edition of the Medicine Hat Tigers. Hamblin is a former first-round bantam pick of the Tabbies (2014, 17th overall). In 197 games played for the Orange and Black, Hamblin has 48 goals and 72 assists for 120 points including 5 points (2G, 3A) in 3 games so far this season. The 19-year-old Edmonton product is a speedy, hard working two way forward who will drive to the net to create scoring opportunities for the Tigers.

Quick Hits

On Wednesday night, Tyler Preziuso played his 200th Career WHL Game. In his WHL Career, Preziuso has 26 goals, 42 assists for 68 points all in Orange and Black.

Rookie blueliner Eric Van Impe scored his first Career WHL Goal during Wednesday night's contest against the Edmonton Oil Kings. Van Impe is the first Tigers' rookie to pick up a point this season.

The Tabbies' currently boasts 17 returning veterans and 6 rookies with an average age of 18.08 years old.

Gary Haden has produced a point a game so far this season (1G, 2A).

Captain James Hamblin is the Tigers' leading scorer with 5 points (2G, 3A) so far this season and he is in a three way tie for the league's 3rd top point producer.

Tigers' Penalty Kill is 85.7% effective so far this season and the team has even scored three shorthanded goals (Gary Haden, Tyler Preziuso and James Hamblin).

Six Tigers were invited to NHL Rookie Tournaments and Main Training Camps. Jordan Hollett (Ottawa Senators), David Quenneville (New York Islanders), Mason Shaw (Minnesota Wild), Linus Nassen (Florida Panthers), Dylan MacPherson (Florida Panthers - invite) and Ryan Chyzowski (Vegas Golden Knights - invite). Hollett and Chyzowski have both rejoined the Tigers. Shaw, Quenneville, Nassen and MacPherson are all at the affiliated AHL Training Camps. About the Medicine Hat Tigers

The Medicine Hat Tigers are a junior hockey team in the Western Hockey League (WHL) who play out of Medicine Hat, AB and were established in 1970. In 48 seasons of playing major junior hockey, the Tigers have won 2 Scotty Munro Memorial Trophies, as well as, 210 playoff games which led to winning 43 playoff series, raising 33 banners, winning five Ed Chynoweth Cups and two Memorial Cups.
