September 28, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - Saturday night is Fridge Magnet Schedule Giveaway Night at Westoba Place as the Wheat Kings play host to the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes in their final home game of September.
The Wheat Kings, who won't play at home again until October 12th, are coming off a successful home and home series sweep of the Moose Jaw Warriors and will be hoping to improve to 3-0 on the season.
Lethbridge meanwhile split their first two games and play in Regina tonight. The Hurricanes, who are currently ranked among the top teams in the WHL, defeated the Wheat Kings in round two of last year's playoffs and pushed the eventual champion Swift Current Broncos to six games in the Eastern Conference Final.
Entering weekend play, 20-year old defenceman Schael Higson leads the Wheat Kings in scoring with a goal and four points in two games. Netminder Jiri Patera, the club's second selection in June's Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, turned aside 56 of 59 shots in backstopping Brandon to last weekend's wins and 16-year old rookie Ridly Greig - a native of Lethbridge - scored his first ever WHL goal in Saturday's 4-2 win in Moose Jaw.
Since opening weekend, the Wheat Kings have made two roster moves, sending Rylan Bettens to Portland for a conditional bantam draft choice in 2021 and designed 18-year old defenceman Ty Ettinger for assignment.
Following Saturday's game - presented by Manitoba Hydro - the Wheat Kings will travel to Saskatchewan next weekend for games against the Warriors and Pats in Moose Jaw and Regina.
The first 2,500 fans attending Friday's game will receive a Wheat Kings 2018-19 Fridge Magnet Schedule.
Tickets to Saturday's game are on sale now at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling (204) 726-3555 or online at keystonecentre.com
