Syracuse Silver Knights News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Silver Knights (0-1) will open its 2014-2015 home slate on Friday, November 21st when they take on the Ontario Fury (1-2) at 7:30 p.m. EST at the Oncenter War Memorial Arena.

Friday's meeting is the first match of a busy stretch for the Orange, Silver and Black. The Silver Knights play six games in a four-week stretch beginning this weekend. It brings them back home again next Saturday against rival the Baltimore Blast.

The Silver Knights have never played against the Fury in their history. Syracuse switched from the Major Indoor Soccer League to the Major Arena Soccer League this offseason and will face several new teams this year. Ontario is the first former PASL-Pro team that the Salt City club plays. It will be the New York side's first matchup against a team from California.

Both Syracuse and Ontario come into Friday's game with losing records and looking to gain momentum at the start if the season. Coach Tommy Tanner's team lost their opener on the road against Eastern Division foe Baltimore Blast 16-7 on November 7th. The Fury have lost two of its first three. Ontario fell to the Monterrey Flash 7-5 to start the season before beating Pacific Division rival Sacramento Surge 12-7. Last Sunday, the club lost 7-2 to the undefeated San Diego Shockers to drop to 1-2.

"I'm just glad to get the season underway,'' Head Coach Tommy Tanner said. "I think we've had some good practices the last two weeks. I think the guys are doing the right things. We'll be ready. We want to come out and jump on them early.''

The Fury bring a familiar face to the Oncenter War Memorial Arena. DF Stephen Basso was traded from Rochester to Ontario in the offseason. Basso appeared in 11 rivalry matches against the Silver Knights in his two seasons with the Lancers, notching two goals and three assists in the tilts. Through three games, the D.C. United Academy product has gotten off to a hot start this campaign, leading the California side with three goals and three assists.

FW Slavisa Ubiparipovic leads the Silver Knights in points tallying one goal and one assist after one game. MD/FW Antonio Manfut and DF Nelson Santana follow with one goal each on the season.

Head Coach Bernie Lilavois is familiar with the East Coast and indoor soccer. Although he has spent most of his career in California, Lilavois spent a successful spell with the Harrisburg Heat. The Fury head man scored 119 goal in 81 games with the Pennsylvania club.

Friday's match will be broadcast live from the War Memorial on GoLiveSportsCast.com beginning at 7:30 p.m. EST with commentary by John Paul Chunga. The game will be available shortly after its completion as on-demand content.
