Bradenton Marauders News Release
BRADENTON, Fla. - The Marauders saw their winning streak end with a 4-3 loss to the Jupiter Hammerheads on Friday night at LECOM Park before the second game was postponed due to rain.
The second game will be made up Saturday, July 16 as part of a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. The doubleheader will consist of two seven-inning games.
The loss ended the Marauders' winning streak at nine games, matching the franchise record.
Friday's game saw Jupiter (9-9, 43-39) jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning off Marauders (12-6, 41-42) starter Bubba Chandler in his Single-A pitching debut. Ian Lewis was hit by a pitch with one out, and with two out, Federico Polanco slugged a towering home run to right field for a Hammerheads lead.
Chandler recovered to finish the inning with a strikeout and turned in a scoreless second inning with two more strikeouts, but labored again in the third. After the Marauders got a run in the second inning on a Juan Jerez RBI-single, making the score 2-1, the Hammerheads opened the top of the third with an Angeudis Santos walk and a Lewis double. A fielder's choice grounder by Brady Allen plated Santos, and Carlos Santiago lined an RBI-single to stretch Jupiter's lead to 4-1. Chandler was pulled with the bases loaded after allowing another double and a walk. Carlos Lomeli entered in relief and escaped the jam with a groundout.
Chandler finished with three walks and four strikeouts over two and two-thirds innings, taking the loss with four runs allowed on four hits.
After managing just one run against Jupiter starter Jake Walters in his four innings, Bradenton grabbed two runs off reliever Luarbert Arias in the sixth. Rodolfo Nolasco crushed a solo home run to left field, his team-leading eleventh of the season, and the Marauders proceeded to load the bases on three consecutive walks after the homer. Left-hander Caleb Wurster hit Grant Koch with an 0-2 pitch, forcing home a run and bringing Bradenton within one run, 4-3. A Jasiah Dixon strikeout left the tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position.
Meanwhile, left-hander Anthony Solometo dominated in a bulk role out of the bullpen for the Marauders from the fourth through the seventh inning, retiring each of the 12 batters he faced and registering a career-best six strikeouts.
In the bottom of the seventh, pinch-hitter Wyatt Hendrie drew a two-out walk from Wurster to place the tying run on base, but Yoilan Quinonez entered to pitch and struck out Nolasco for the game's final out.
The series continues Saturday with the aforementioned 5 p.m. doubleheader. The Marauders have yet to announce their starting pitchers, while Jupiter will send LHP Jesus Luzardo to the mound for a major league rehab start in Game 1 and LHP Sandro Bargallo will start Game 2.
