Green Bay Gamblers News Release
For the second straight week the Green Bay Gamblers split their two weekend games. After defeating the Chicago Steel 2-1 on Friday, the Gamblers fell to the Youngstown Phantoms 2-1 at the Resch Center on Saturday. With the split the Gamblers sit at 2-4-1.
Forwards Ryan Blankemeier and Ryan Poehling tallied second period goals and goaltender Adam Huska made 25 saves to lead the Gamblers to a 2-1 win over the Chicago Steel at the Fox Valley Ice Arena on Friday. Blankemeier, who was acquired via a trade with the Steel earlier in the week, found the back of the net at 5:58 mark of the middle period to tie the game at 1-1. The Gamblers took the lead midway through the second period when Poehling scored on the power play (9:51). Green Bay's penalty kill, which went 8-for-8 in last Saturday's (10/10) win over Waterloo, continued to be impressive going 4-for-4 on the kill. Huska earned his second win of the campaign kicking out 25 shots.
Despite outshooting Youngstown 38-24 the Gamblers fell to the Phantoms 2-1 on Saturday at the Resch Center. Green Bay outshot Youngstown 14-5 in the first period, but trailed 1-0. In the second period, forward Jared Spooner was awarded a penalty shot. Spooner tried to go top corner, but Youngstown goaltender Colin DeAugustine got his glove on it. Green Bay finally found the back of the net at the 3:18 mark of the third period, when Cam Lee's slap-shot from the point eluded DeAugustine. The Phantoms regained the lead at the 12:48 mark of the third period. Green Bay received a power play and pulled goaltender Kevin Reich for a 6-on-4 advantage in the final minute. The Gamblers had multiple opportunities but could not get the equalizer. Reich finished the game with 22 saves. In the other crease, DeAugustine made 37 saves.
