GREEN BAY, Wis. - Jared Spooner scored at the 1:17 mark of the third period, the game-winning-goal, in a 4-1 win over the Dubuque Fighting Saints on Sunday afternoon at the Resch Center. The Gamblers now hold a three-point advantage on the second spot in the Eastern Conference with the win.
Joey Marooney added a goal for the Gamblers four minutes later, to establish a two-goal advantage. Head coach Jason Lammers pulled Hunter Miska with nine minutes remaining in regulation time to try and stoke a comeback, but to no avail.
A turnover at the offensive blue line led to Chris Grando sealing the win for the Gamblers, with a shot from a long ways out into the empty net.
Joey Keane scored his third goal in the last four games, a goal that was initially waved off due to contact with a high stick. After review, it was determined Keane's shot was never deflected, and the goal stood, tying the game at one apiece at the 8:41 mark of the second period. That goal was in response to the opening tally, a goal from Marc Michaelis in the final minute of the first period.
Green Bay appeared to score twice in the second period, but both goals were waved off for two different reasons. One netmouth scramble was washed out due to the puck being pushed with a hand into the net, and the second was intent to blow the whistle on a puck that was covered by Miska.
Adam Huska made 19 saves in the win for Green Bay. Miska stopped 24 of 27 chances.
