Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release
Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Third period goals from Matt Case and Kevin Deeth (shorthanded) allowed the Green Bay Gamblers to build a 3-1 lead over the host RoughRiders and then survive a late Rider charge to come away with a 3-2 win.
Case snapped a 1-1 tie with a wraparound goal at 7:01 of the third.
Just under three minutes later, the Gamblers were down a man when Deeth skated into the goalmouth and snapped a wrist shot past Rider goaltender Pat McGann (29 saves) to stretch the lead to a pair.
The Riders would battle back, however, as Sergei Kolosov scored from center ice to trim the deficit to 3-2 at 17:12 of the third.
The Riders nearly tied it in the dying seconds of regulation after pulling McGann for an extra attacker. Green Bay netminder Max Strang was, however, turned aside a flurry of Rider chances just before the final horn.
The Gamblers entered the second period trailing 1-0, but were able to tie the score on Tyler Lehrke's breakaway goal at 9:07 of the middle frame.
The Riders David Strathman opened the scoring 7:11 into the game. Strathman raced into the goalmouth to bury a Chad Costello centering feed.
