Galaxy unveil 2005 preseason schedule
February 3, 2005 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
LA Galaxy News Release
CARSON, CA (Thursday, February 3, 2005) - The Los Angeles Galaxy today announced their 2005 preseason schedule. The calendar of activities includes high-octane exhibition matches in Hawaii and Spain. In 2004, the Galaxy's preseason included an 11-day trip to Southern France and several exhibitions in the USA.
"It's our club's history to travel abroad during preseason to test ourselves against top competition," said Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "We are excited about the opportunity to compete, but are more interested to see how we develop over the next two months."
The Galaxy will open their preseason at The Home Depot Center in Carson on Thursday, February 3. After spending two and a half weeks training at home, the Galaxy will depart for Hawaii on February 20. That trip will culminate with a blockbuster match-up against defending MLS Cup Champions D.C. United in the inaugural Aloha Soccer Cup at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu on February 26.
"I am very excited to begin my first preseason in charge of the Galaxy and look forward to imparting my philosophy to this group of players over the next two months," said Galaxy Head Coach Steve Sampson. "Our players will be challenged by quality opponents early and often this pre-season. These games will help mold the Galaxy into a team that, first and foremost, will be competing for the MLS Cup championship at the end of the season."
From the fiftieth state, the Galaxy return home for a handful of days before departing for Europe, where they are scheduled to play three games in 12 days, returning home March 16.
There will be little rest for the club as the preseason reaches its home stretch for Los Angeles. With the arrival of March 18 comes a trip to Northern California and an exhibition contest against the Fresno Fuego on the 19th. The game marks the second consecutive year the teams have met in the preseason.
After returning to Carson for the final time before the start of their tenth regular season, the Green and Gold are slated to play their final tune-up on March 23. The Galaxy will then open their tenth MLS season on April 2 against the Columbus Crew.
Los Angeles Galaxy 10th Season Celebration Packs are now on sale. For as little as just $37, fans can purchase tickets to the Galaxy's home opener against Real Salt Lake at The Home Depot Center and their first home game against CD Chivas USA.
