CARSON, CA (Thursday November 3, 2005) - Los Angeles Galaxy and U.S. national team standout Landon Donovan has been nominated for the 2005 Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year award.
Donovan, who played his first season with the Galaxy in 2005 after a stint with Bayer 04 Leverkusen of the German Bundesliga, led the club with 12 goals and 10 assists in just 22 regular season matches. In addition, he led the USA in goals scored for the year.
In an effort to help determine who should win this year's Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year, SI.com asked the magazine's writers for their nominations. The essays are featured prominently on the magazine's web site and will lead up to the Sportsman being named on December 9.
