Denver, Colo. - Colorado Mammoth team captain Gary Gait starts the 2004 National Lacrosse League season right where he left off - as one of the NLL's big award-winners.

Gait was named the NLL's overall and offensive player of the week for his league-leading six goals, including the game-winner, and five assists during the 17-8 Colorado Mammoth win over the San Jose Stealth last Friday at Pepsi Center. Gait was named player of the week three times last March as the 2003 season ended. He scored a record-setting 61 goals last season on his way to being named the NLL's 2003 most valuable player.

"Gary continues to be the biggest name in the sport," said Steve Govett, Colorado Mammoth general manager. "His commitment to leading our team is unqualified and we're proud to have him play in Colorado."

Also winning weekly awards were defensive player of the week Arizona Sting goaltender Mike Miron for his 49 saves in Arizona's 16-12 win over the Vancouver Ravens, and the Buffalo Bandits' AJ Shannon who took rookie of the week honors after scoring three goals in a 12-11 win over the Rochester Knighthawks.

The Mammoth plays the Arizona Sting in Phoenix Friday night.
