Mississippi RiverKings News Release
Southaven, MS- Sunday night Jonathan Gagnon continued his red-hot play of late by scoring the game winning goal early in the third period as the RiverKings defeated the Fort Worth Brahmas 3-1. The RiverKings return to action on Thursday at the DeSoto Civic Center, located just 15 minutes from downtown, as they host the Laredo Bucks at 7:05. Tickets are available by calling the RiverKings office at (662) 342-1755.
Brad Mueller got the âKings going in the first period for the second consecutive night as he fired a rebound shot past Brahmas goaltender Jason Fricker for his 12th of the season at 7:05 of the first frame.
That score carried over into the third period until Gagnon extended his goal scoring streak to five games and his point streak to 10 games with his 24th of the season on a backhander from the edge of the crease that just trickled over the goal line 1:34 into the period. Gagnon has now scored six goals over his last five games and has tallied 16 points in the last 10.
Mark Richards' shutout streak was snapped with 3:30 remaining as Rob Giffin fired up his 11th of the season. Richards was flawless elsewhere, as he denied 20 of 21 Brahmas shots to improve to 13-11-1 on the season.
The âKings also wanted the last laugh, and although Don Parsons scored his 50th in front of a silenced Indy crowd Saturday night, he gave the hometown fans a taste of what it was like as he tattooed a similar shot over the shoulder of Fricker for number 51 on the season with 1:47 to go in the game. Parsons, like Gagnon, extended some scoring streaks. Parsons has scored six goals in his last four games and has picked up 14 points in his last 6 games. Fricker finished the night with 30 saves on 33 RiverKings shots to drop to 5-19-1 on the year.
Final Score: Memphis 3, Fort Worth 1.
The âKings finished the night 0 for 4 on power play opportunities while the kill unit contained the Brahmas to just two total shots on all three of their man advantage opportunities.
The RiverKings have won two in a row and finished the season series against the Brahmas with four wins and just a single loss, coming back on November 16th.
