Gabriele Nets Two as Lumberjacks Come from Behind for 4-3 Win

MADISON, WI - The Muskegon Lumberjacks started their four game road trip with a thrilling victory against the Madison Capitols. Grant Gabriele scored two goals, Rem Pitlick registered one goal and one assist, and Joey Daccord made 27 saves to help lift the Jacks to a 4-3 shootout win.

The Lumberjacks came out and dominated the start of the first period. One minute into the game, Muskegon saw itself on the power play and quickly took advantage. Rem Pitlick fired home his 27th of the season with a wrist shot from the top of the circle. Robbie DeMontis assisted on Pitlick's power play goal, to help the Lumberjacks to a 1-0 lead. Muskegon continued to dominate the first period, outshooting the Capitols 18-9, but could not add to their lead.

The second period started with the Lumberjacks heading to the penalty box. Madison was able to level the game with their own power play goal from Tyson McLellan. Muskegon responded a couple of minutes later with their second power play goal of the evening. Grant Gabriele wristed home his second goal in two games to give the Lumberjacks a 2-1 lead. Matej Paulovic and Rem Pitlick registered the assists on the goal.

The Captiols erased the Lumberjacks one goal lead nine seconds into the third period. Dmitri Buinitsky scored his first career USHL goal to tie the game 2-2. Two minutes later, the Capitols took their first lead of the night with a slap shot from Daniel Willet.

Madison would hold onto the lead until the last minute of the game. After a clean faceoff win in the offensive zone, Gabriele netted his second goal with 36 seconds left to go in the game, when he fired a slap shot from the blue line, past Capitols goaltender Ryan Edquist.

After the overtime frame could not decide a winner, the Lumberjacks went to their sixth shootout of the season. Collin Adams and Matej Paulovic scored in the second and third rounds of the shootout to lift the Lumberjacks to a 4-3 victory. Muskegon improves to (4-2) in the shootout, and (8-4) in the overtime frame on the season.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks (16-17-4) will continue their four game road trip in Iowa this weekend, when they take on the Dubuque Fighting Saints (25-13-1). The next Lumberjacks home game will be on February 19th, when the Lumberjacks host the Capitols for a pair of weekend games.
